Can’t find a monologue? Use one of these..
Monologue 1: The Allergy Excuse
Theme: Trying to get out of gym class or swim practice with an over-the-top excuse.
Tone: High-energy, dramatic, and sneaky.
(Stares pleadingly at an imaginary Coach)
"Coach, hold on, timeout! There has to be a huge mistake on the swim team list. I never even tried out! Do I look like an Olympic swimmer? See? Look at my face—total swimmer panic. I know my parents signed me up, but honestly, I think they were having a temporary daydream. They totally forgot that I’m allergic to water! I can't even take a shower. Don't you smell my 'eau de sweat'? I reek! Plus, I watched Jaws one time, and I am emotionally scarred for life. What do you mean 'no'? Wait, I'm excused? Are you serious?! Yes! Oh, sorry, I mean, no, what a tragedy..."
Monologue 2: The Tech Support Nightmare
Theme: Trying to teach an adult (or sibling) how to use a computer—and failing.
Tone: Frustrated, bossy, yet trying to be patient.
(Stares blankly and sighs heavily as if looking at a computer screen)
"Okay, Grant, listen to me very carefully. Press the power button. It's the circle thing with the line in it. Got it? Okay, now I need you to move the mouse. No, the white plastic thing on the desk! Now click log-in. When this starts up, you’ll see an antivirus program pop up. Just close the window. Grant? Grant, where’d you go?! No, I meant close the window on the computer! Why would you throw our living room window open?! ...How would I even know if it was open?!"
